Pedro do Carmo en Lluïsa  Paredes – twee Portugese cellisten die binnenkort afstuderen aan het Rotterdams Conservatorium – brachten tijdens het afgelopen Cello Festival een bijzonder element in het programma. Samen met cellist-componist Eva Aguilar verdiepten ze zich in de muzikale reis van de Portugese liedjesschrijver Zeca Afonso.

Ze verkenden de expressiviteit en muzikaliteit op de cello van deze buitengewone musicus, wiens werk een directe rol speelde in de Portugese Revolutie in 1974 en de introductie van het democratische gedachtengoed in Portugal.

Begin januari zijn ze door Dat Bolwerck uitgenodigd als artists in residence. Voor iedereen die benieuwd is naar het vervolg van hun muzikale verkenning geven ze op donderdag 11 januari opnieuw een voorstelling. Ook als je er deze zomer niet bij was, opent het je kijk op nieuwe verbindingen en mogelijkheden van de klank van de cello.

Behalve een presentatie over hun reis spelen ze stukken die een bijzondere verdieping bracht tijdens hun zoektocht.

Pedro and Lluïsa – two Portuguese musicians who are graduating from the Rotterdam Conservatory – brought a unique element to the program during the recent Cello Festival. They delved into the musical journey of Portuguese songwriter Zeca Afonso, exploring the expressiveness and musicality on the cello of this irreplaceable figure within the Portuguese musical environment.

The thinking behind his music had a direct influence on the Portuguese Revolution  in 1974 and in the introduction of the democratic notion in Portugal.

Early January, they are invited by Dat Bolwerck as artists in residence, together with cellist-composer Eva Aguilar.
